Summary
Not since Phillip Jones Griffiths' seminal book on the Vietnam War, "Vietnam, Inc.," has a photographer so thoroughly explored the physical, spiritual and social consequences of war as [Stephen Ferry]. His exploration of fighting in Colombia, "The Wrong War," attempts to deconstruct a cycle of violence which has been spinning since the 19th century. Drawing inspiration from Jose Eustasio Rivera's 1924 novel, "The Vortex," Ferry moves back and forth from the battlefield to civilians maintaining a precarious semblance of what normal life should be. In one striking image, a group of guerillas relax by watching a "novella" on television.
