Summary
Playwright and actor [Roger Guenveur Smith] recited portions of a [Frederick Douglass] speech from his play ''Frederick Douglass Now." once airain underlining the famed abolitionist's tour of Ireland, Scotland and England after the publication of his autobiography. Smith, quoting Douglass, said that Blacks and the Irish are "united by an essential experience."
Both O'[Kelly] and Smith were among the honorées that began with a salute to Thomp- son, who found some of Dou- glass' oratory and his associa- tion with the great Irish revo- lutionary Daniel O'Connell appropri- ate during his remarks.
