A national medical consortium billing itself as the Depression Is Real Coalition issued a press release last week announcing that it had distributed a series of public service announcements to various media outlets nationwide that highlight the effects of depression and mental illness. "What people may not understand is that depression is not just a matter of being in a bad mood or something that's in a person's mind," said David Sham, president of Mental Health America, a member of the coalition. "It's just like any other biologically based dis ease and is a condition that commonly co-occurs with chronic diseases."
