Summary
I had the pleasure recently of seeing [Kevin Mambo] in the role and he brings his own confident swagger to it. Mambo is marvelous! One can vividly see the power and the message of the story through Mambo's portrayal, which includes a lot of hip shaking, marvelous singing and charismatic acting. Mambo brings [Fela]'s pain, his tragedy, and the few lighter moments of persecution to light in a way that makes it all an odd mix of powerful, gripping and devastating at the same time.
Mambo perfectly performs as [FeIa] and proves to be what the names mean - "He who shines with greatness." From the time that he comes out and makes his way to the stage, Mambo seems to be summoning the spirit of the late FeIa through his inspiring performance.A musician, writer and singer, FeIa first wanted to play music purely for its entertainment value, but then was changed by the Black Power Movement and the suffering of his people in Lagos, Nigeria, and began to use music as a weapon to sound off against the white British oppressors and the corrupt government officials and soldiers.See the full content of this document
