"I think that's wonderful," said Tom Peyton, director of the Special Olympics New York, New York City division. "I think it's great to honor individuals who've been instrumental to advancing the cause for people with intellectual or physical abilities. I think it's just terrific."

"When we deal with the population, people always say that it's hard work. In actuality, the people that work with the individuals get the rewards," said [Kevin Johnson]. "The work that we do doesn't compare to the rewards we get because you learn so much. It's work, but it's not hard work."

"We're proud of it," said [Willie Mae Goodman]. "And I'm more proud of it now that every year we're going to honor [Wilbert Tatum]."

Last Thursday, the Gouverneur Parents Association and Special Olympics New York hosted the ninth Special Olympic Games for clients of the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD).
