Sharpton Supports Eady and Prepares for Haiti

"I'm here for [Kermit Eady] because he has been here for us," [Sharpton] told the packed sanctuary at Metropolitan AME Church in Harlem. "I don't know the strategy, but I do know that the institution he founded has provided housing for hundreds in Harlem and elsewhere, and we need to have him back in that leadership position."

"They are killing each other in Haiti and nobody is saying anything about it," Sharpton asserted. "I've talked to members of the opposition and to Aristide and they are willing to meet with me to see what can be done to stop the violence."

Dr. [James McIntosh] explained his long relationship with Sharpton, the need to save BUFNY, and some recent developments in his own personal dilemma. He was fired from Covenant House several weeks ago, and since then, community activists have been protesting outside the location, demanding that he be rehired as the resident psychiatrist. "I don't want my old job back," McIntosh roared. "I want the job as executive director, which I am more than qualified for."
