Qadir Dixon knows how to run his school, but he's putting the "pal" back in principal at IS 286, Renaissance Leadership Academy, formally Renaissance Military Leadership Academy. He's had the job since July of this year and has his work cut out for him.

Upon his arrival at the school, he said he knew it would be one of the city's public schools that received an "F" grade on the Board of Education's recent progress report. But he says that the "F" stands for foundation.

"We're taking ownership of what we had and turning it all the way around," he said. "We will be the pride and joy of Harlem, and anybody who comes through the school will be destined for excellence."
