Pondexter Shines in 'Homecoming' Win Over Liberty

Summary

Although she had never played in Madison Square Garden before, Rutgers alum Cappie [Cappy Pondexter], rookie with the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, still dubbed Sunday's game versus the New York Liberty a "homecoming." With college coach C. Vivian Stringer and several Scarlet Knights on hand to see the Mercury defeat the Liberty 94-88, it truly was.

"It's my moment. It's something that I cherish. I'm not content where I'm at. I'm just going to keep working hard," said Pondexter.

The Liberty record is now 4-14. Pondexter's former college teammates took it all in. "Cappie showed me how to be a leader," said junior guard Matee Ajavon. "Seeing her play here is definitely an inspiration to excel in college and hopefully get to where she is."
