[Chris Evert] recalled when she became the president of the women's WTA how Billy mentored her as the outgoing president. "I absolutely love tennis. I'll watch any kind of tennis," she laughingly said. She noted that she was in Arthur Ashe Stadium, having bonded with its namesake, sensitive to his struggle to make the world a better place for all. Billy thanked former New York City Mayor David Dinkins, who made the development of the tennis facility a priority during his administration.
