Summary
The Jones/Zane Company will present two world premieres, "Serenade/The Proposition" and "Fondly Do We Hope. . .Fervently Do We Pray." A purposeful pairing, together these works are billed as sister works, where "Serenade" explores and addresses issues of a shared history onstage with the Lincoln era as a central theme, while "Fondly... Fervently" is more about Lincoln specifically.
For "Serenade," [Bill T. Jones] began making the work by bridging the gap between what he calls "the abstraction of our dancelanguage and our subject, the man and his era" by using "Lincoln's language." "Serenade" is accompanied by original music by Jerome Begin and Christopher Lancaster for piano, cello and voice, performed live with Lisa Komara.Fervently dances out Jones' investigation of key moments from Lincoln's life through song, movement, text and video to transport the audience to another space and time. Jones' "FeIa!" is filled with an incredible cast that comes together in a titillating, noteworthy and highly artistic evening of true theater, as they explore the controversial life of FeIa Anikulapo-Kuti's life as an artist, political activist and revolutionary musician.See the full content of this document
