Summary
As you sit and experience this show, it's a view into a world that many may not know but will remember. When [Rome Neal] first performed this piece it was obvious that he had prepared himself to do this character, but now, after years have passed, he has taken the piece to a higher level and it shows in his performance. Prior to the show, Neal has a jazz jam session to get the audience in the mood for what they are about to experience. Neal decided to add this component to the show because, he says, he realized that he still had work to do: Neal recognized that while he portrayed [Thelonious Monk], he had not experienced another very important side of the musician's life, which was going to jazz jam sessions. Neal began to not only attend such sessions, often hanging with musicians into the night, but he also learned to sing jazz and is now a legitimate jazz singer.
