In 1971, the Mount Morris Park neighborhood was given landmark status by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. Mt. Morris is one of New York City's premier historic districts, encompassing the Marcus Garvey Park from 119th to 124th streets, Malcolm X Blvd. to Fifth Avenue, and Mount Morris Park West.
