In the face of demands from fans and media to rid the Knicks of its dead weight, the team's coach and president, Isiah Thomas, resisted making any deals before the February 21 trading deadline saying "we didn't try to save the day with that one savior bad contract that goes on for a lifetime." Whether this was Thomas's decision or that of owner James Dolan, it was a logical judgment to help secure a better future for the struggling franchise.
