Summary
Watching [Jenifer Lewis]' performance and that of her fellow cast members one realizes that the stage of "Mother Courage..." is filled with some of the greatest talent one will ever have the privilege of seeing, especially for free. But don't be fooled by watching Lewis so easily handle her role. The 49-year-old actress, who has been acting professionally for 30 years, admits that it's hard work. Born in the small town of Kinloch on the outskirts of St. Louis, Missouri, a poverty-stricken town, Lewis has certainly faced challenges. But she managed to keep her focus to become a performer. She recalled, "My family saw it when I was running around at 2, 3 and 4. They said I came out singing. Everyone saw what I was going to be and I was fortunate enough to become it. It's a lot of hard work, though; make no mistake. Doing this is like life, we work until we stop [die] if we are determined to make a difference."
