Summary
Known to many as "[Jerry]," [William Gerald Davenport] began his professional career in the early 1960s with the New York City Mission Society, where he was the Society's principal relationship manager with Camp Minisink in Port Jervis, NY, one of the largest African American summer camps in the country at the time. Beginning in 1965, Gerald worked for over 20 years as a Program Officer of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF), where he eventually became the Director of New York City Programs and was responsible for funding the creation, development and ongoing operations of many of the City's most prominent social service, education and public welfare organizations. After leaving RBF, Gerald served briefly on staff at the Harlem Urban Development Corporation and then went to work at Phipps Houses, where he retired as a Senior Vice President for resident services. In addition, Gerald co-founded Gerall-Stan Associates, a consulting firm that assisted community organizations in developing successful funding requests.
