Many young teams tend to become overenthusiastic when playing in big games, specifically at home. [Dereck Whittenburg] would welcome that kind of energy from his boys. "You don't know what young teams are gonna do," said Whittenburg. "We don't have the kind of emotion we like to see. We're too stoic." Stoicism isn't necessarily what comes to mind when one looks at the roster and sees six freshmen. However, showing a statuesque personality externally doesn't cover up the erratic play on the court, which proves a lack of focus. "It's all about toughness. It's all about confidence a little bit," Whittenburg said. "It's mental, guys!"

While the senior (one of three on the team) doesn't even average one point per game and barely reaches a one rebound average, Whittenburg feels that Wing provides immeasurable intangibles.
