"Of all the people running I thought he [[Gifford Miller]] explained himself the best as to how he was going to enact the things he was advertising," said Banks, who is African American. "I also read some civil rights literature and saw that he supported bills in that area and that are very important to me," added Banks, one of less than a handful of African Americans present.

"I think Miller brings the energy and dynamism that we need in a mayor, and he has a record of results," said Mark Mellman, a pollster. "Other people have been talking over the past four years and the last four months, and Miller has been taking on Michael Bloomberg in the City Council and winning big."
