The New Federal Theatre opened its 39th season with a bang this Sunday as it presented three powerful, poignant and provocative one-act plays: "Amarie" by Hugh L. Fletcher, "Salaam, [Huey P. Newton], Salaam" by Ed Bulling and Marvin X and "The Toilet" by Amiri Baraka.

In this one-act, stunningly directed by Freedome Bradley, the audience meets a 14-year-old girl named Amarie, her 34-year-old mother and the school social worker.
