Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Holland America, Norwegian, Princess and Disney are but a few of the many cruise lines that sail to almost anywhere in the world, including Antarctica. The recreational activities offered now are unbelievable as well, with anything from miniature golf to basketball, rock-climbing, in-line and ice skating, bowling, board game tournaments and a whole lot more. And that's just the on-board stuff! At sea and in port, cruise passengers can engage in water and snow skiing, scuba diving, beach parties, parasailing, jet skiing, helicopter rides... it's all off the hook!
Many of these soulful cruises are also tied to celebrities and celebrity events. Sinbad was probably one of the first to initiate large groups of Blacks on a schedule cruise, while more recently Tom Joyner has created mega-cruises where the entire ship is transformed into an African American retreat. Educational institutions like Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's), civil rights organizations, health companies, business enterprises and more, who cater to or have strong ties to the African American community, are just a handful of those who also use cruises as a forum for networking, business and entertaining.Royal Caribbean International cruise lines is also presenting a very unique program called "A Royal Celebration of Art." Designed to support the next generation of African American artists, the program is a series of live auctions held in port on a state-of-the-art Royal Caribbean cruise ship, featuring the works of African American artists.
