Manhattan Da Dismisses Murder Indictment Against Wrongly Accused Rappers

Summary

Initially the three men were picked up based on the word of a police confidential informant who identified them as the perpetrators. Investigations conducted by the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem (NDS), the law office representing [Anthony Garland], uncovered a number of residents of the 550 block of West 160th Street who were witness to the shooting and were clear that the shooters were not the three individuals arrested. Armed with sworn affidavits from those eyewitnesses, along with statements from alibi witnesses who could testify to the legitimate whereabouts of the three men at the time of the shooting, Rick Jones, deputy director of NDS and lead counsel for Mr. Garland, along with the other defense counsel, were able to persuade Judge Richard Atlas to order the DA and the police to reopen their investigation.
