Summary
Mother of Amadou Diallo, Madame Kadiatou Diallo explained, "[Amadou] came to the U.S. and he was portrayed as this insignificant immigrant and he was profiled and he was killed by the system, while [Jesse Thyne] was welcomed as a son in Africa and was given everything. I think the people [viewing the film] got it, people got the message that we are a people who love life, who give and share everything, even if we have little. We are proud of our ancestors, proud of our heritage and we have dignity. This film will serve to educate all humanity."
"Death of Two Sons" follows the life histories of Amadou and Jesse as their dreams led them to each other's home country. Jesse Thyne knew Amadou's history better than any other American did. An exuberant Peace Corps volunteer from Pasadena, CA, Jesse was assigned to Amadou's home village in Guinea, West Africa. He was adopted by members of the Diallo family and lived in their home.Wheeler Avenue, the street where Amadou lived and was killed, was renamed Amadou Diallo Place on February 4, 2003. In 2005 Kadiatou Diallo gave $23,000 in scholarship monies so that other immigrant students could attend college. The amount represents the 23 years of Amadou's life until his murder.See the full content of this document
