Summary


"It's just such a special place to be," she gushes. "I have so much respect for Mr. [Arthur Mitchell]. He knows so much, and he's created a company that's opened up the art form for African Americans. It's so accepting here. And there are so many dancers of different colors, different body types, and everyone brings something different to the table. Mr. Mitchell is able to train us in a way that it all comes together. Not that everything is uniform, but such variety. And it enriches the art to have us here."

It sparkled with several jewels including two pas de deux, one showcasing Jaime Kotrba and Samuel Wilson dancing a lissome loving duet matching the gentle caress of Nora Jones' voice in "Come Away With Me," and the other featuring Andrea Long and Fidel Garcia's riveting performance in Davis Robertson's "Unequilbrium," a ballet that was, in contrast to the first, more acrobatic and challenging as the dancers pushed, pulled, stretched and twisted their taut bodies into elaborate shapes.
