Columbia University Pushes for a Diverse Faculty

"We're hoping to see real results in three years," [Jean Howard] said, adding that "institutional changes will be more gradual, but not too gradual."

The goal is to add between 15 and 20 notable women and minority scholars to the faculty of the arts and sciences over the next few years. Efforts will also be made to change the "process and culture" involving faculty searches, recruitment, and hiring. The successful retention of the added diverse individuals by the school will also be attempted.
