Summary


Springing into effect is one working example of regional cooperation, the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance facility (CCRIF), which is a riskpooling faculty owned, operated and registered in the Caribbean for Caribbean governments. It is designed to limit the financial impact of catastrophic hurricanes and earthquakes to Caribbean governments by quickly providing short-term liquidity when a policy is triggered. Haiti purchased both hurricane and earthquake parametric coverage from CORIF, and initial earthquake magnitude/location estimates from the TJaGS suggest that a payout will be triggered, which will help supplement the regional and international assistance en route to Haiti.

The Caribbean Tourism Orga- nization (CTO) has expressed its deep sadness over the tragic loss of life and the extensive damage caused by the earthquake.
