Caribbean Leaders to Meet with Rice

In what is most likely to be their last real chance at a formal meeting before the November presidential elections, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is scheduled to sit down with Caribbean leaders on Thursday to review the state of U.S.-Caribbean relations.

"The invitation came this time specifically for heads of government," Foreign Affairs Chief Colin Granderson said. "This meeting has to been seen as an effort to build a bridge and to ensure continuity with the incoming administration," he said.

Caribbean trade with the U.S. is almost on par in terms of dollar volumes with US. exports, largely due to natural gas and other petroleum products from Trinidad. Trinidad is the largest single gas supplier to the US. for the eastern seaboard states.
