Bronx Cop Indicted in Fatal Shooting of Fermin Arzu

Summary


[Fermin Arzu]'s family attorney, Sanford Rubenstein, told reporters the indictment was only "a first step".

Back in June, Johnson held a two-hour meeting with the Arzu family that was attended by NAN general counsel, Michael Hardy. After the meeting Hardy told reporters the family "had confidence that a full and complete investigation was going forward."

Police sources have been quoted in various stories as saying [Raphael Lora], an eight-year veteran, never fired his service revolver in the line of duty. However, early in the investigation, there were conflicting reports as to whether Lora fired at Arzu from close range.

Also addressing the case at that time was Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, who said a grand jury should decide whether to bring charges against the officer.
