[David Lammy MP] said that although the civil rights movement had changed since the 1960s, "the narrative of social justice should not be lost." He said that Blacks in leadership positions sometimes suffer from a crisis of confidence and may not do all they can to help others. "African-Americans have the power to lever companies to invest in inner cities," he said."Over the past ten years, despite all of the difficult global events, we clearly have one of the most successful economies in the world," he explained. "We've combined growth in the economy with increase in public spending. Schools have improved, and we've pumped money into the NHS, which was on its knees.
