Summary


Frances M. Ramos, mother of three daughters, says she doesn't believe that rappers and athletes will be the deciding factor in whether a child goes to school. "Obviously we have flaws, especially in our schools' ability to maintain our children in school. Most of the time it's not getting them there, but keeping them there. Yes, we as parents must be responsible for our children, but there are so many everyday necessities being cut - why waste dollars on what could be potential funding for the programs our children really need. Rappers? Hasn't this been done before? Didn't it not work? Why would it work now?"

The mayor's office stated in its press release, "Absenteeism rates are highest in low-income communities where school offers students the best opportunity for future success."
