"We went out this morning, we worked hard," [Adriano Espaillat] said about the campaign of the two. "I saw something about her, I saw a glow and she's going to win this election."

"It takes a lot of courage for Adriano to do what he did," [Montague] said of Espaillat's suggestion that each officially endorse the other. She said that since candidates traditionally do not step out of their boundaries as far as reaching out to voters, she and Espaillat were particularly taking a risky, but worthwhile chance.

"It is important that people of all goodwill, all races" band together, Montague said. "It's not a Black issue, it's not a Puerto Rican or Dominican issue - it's a people issue."
