OBABATUNDE BIDS "CHICAGO" FAREWELL: After two much-deserved extensions of his acclaimed run as Billy Flynn in the Tony Award-winning musical "Chicago," actor/director/singer/dancer [Obba Babatunde]'s final performance at the Ambassador Theatre's long-running hit will be Sunday, August 20th. However, the acclaimed stage, screen and TV actor, whose four years on UPN's celebrated sitcom "Half & Half" brought him legions of new younger fans, will can be seen in the new feature film "Material Girls," directed by [Martha Coolidge] (who also directed Babatunde in "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge"). The film opens Friday, August 18, and stars sisters [Hilary Duff] and Haylie Duff, who I had the pleasure of meeting at the "Material Girls" New York post-premiere party at the Pink Elephant last Monday, where Obba, his "Chicago" co-star [Brenda Braxton] (with husband Tony), Audrey Adams ("The Adams Report"), rising actress Shamika Cotton, and a host of other well-wishers celebrated the film's opening. Portraying Craig, a savvy, corporate heavyweight, Babatunde's performance lights up the screen and highlights the film. The talented Duff sisters are also wonderful in this funny, touching and delightful "riches to rags to reality" tale. Constantly engaged in first-rate projects, Babatunde is set to film, "If I Tell You, I Have To Kill You," a taut, dramatic movie that he assures will more than live up to its ominous title.
