DMX: Soul of a Man" shows us the spiritual and insightful man beneath the hardcore rapper. We know his intense, loud, sandpapery voice and gangster lyrics, but we don't know his yearning for inner peace, his source of inspiration, his passion for family, and his inner struggle with his rap personality. This series reveals to viewers Earl Simmons, who runs to his getaway home in Carefree, Arizona, where no one knows his alter ego DMX. In Carefree, his legal troubles, and rap battles disappear. He shares his love for the Midwest, four-wheeling, and guns with his neighbor Buddy, who ultimately becomes the father figure he never had growing up. Viewers also get to know the intimate relationships of Earl's inner circle: his wife, managers, and family.
